Enjoying Authentic Moroccan Mint Tea in October

August 14, 2026
Authentic Moroccan Mint Tea with fresh mint and teapot

As the warmth of summer gently fades into the crisp breeze of October, there is no better way to embrace the autumn season in Morocco than with a steaming glass of fresh Moroccan Mint Tea (Atay).

In Moroccan culture, tea is much more than just a warm beverage—it is a symbol of hospitality, warmth, and togetherness. During the cool October evenings, preparing a traditional pot of tea brings comfort to every household.

Ingredients You Will Need

  • 2 tablespoons Green tea (Gunpowder tea)
  • 1 large handful Fresh spearmint leaves (*Na'na*)
  • 3 to 4 tablespoons Sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 4 cups Boiling water

Simple Preparation Steps

  1. Rinse the Tea: Add the green tea gunpowder to a traditional Moroccan teapot (*Berrad*), pour in half a cup of boiling water, swirl gently, and pour out the water to rinse the tea leaves.
  2. Steep: Pour the remaining boiling water over the rinsed tea leaves and place the teapot over low heat for 2 to 3 minutes until it boils gently.
  3. Add Mint and Sugar: Remove the teapot from the heat, stuff it with washed fresh mint leaves, and add the sugar.
  4. Mix and Pour: Pour tea into a glass and pour it back into the pot 2 or 3 times to mix the flavors naturally and create that famous, beautiful foam (*Rgaous*).

Pour from a high distance into delicate glasses, and enjoy your cozy October afternoon with some traditional Moroccan cookies or fresh bread!
